Last year has been a quiet year for the Alumni after a busy 2014 where we celebrated the college 40th anniversary.
Although quiet, the Alumni has continued with some of our regular activities. These include giving career counselling sessions to our graduating students, supporting our students with the Mid-autumn Festival, celebrate Teachers’ Day, running a series of Celebrity Chef Sessions and keeping in contact with our former teachers and principals by holding a pre-lunar New Year lunch.
We have also not forgotten the less fortunate students by continuing to offer them bursaries, scholarship and book prizes. Last year, we handed out a record 74 bursaries worth a total of $66,400 to our needy students. We have also established the Lim Nai Tian’s Students Community Service Award. These awards, named after our pioneer principal, recognize students who have shown leadership in community services.
The Alumni is also grateful that our pioneer teacher Mrs Ang Lai Kuin has written a book entitled “A Teacher’s Memoirs – Hwa Chong Junior College”. To many of us, the book helps chronicle the history of the college since its founding in 1974.
On more serious matters, our members have approved and passed constitutional changes that will strengthen and preserve the name of the Alumni. Alumni membership has also increased steadily.
We look forward to another strong year for the Alumni.
Here’s wishing you and your loved ones a great 2016 ahead!
