Alumni College Day

July 28, 2017

Alumni College Day celebrates the spirit of all students of Hwa Chong Junior College. While the college name is no longer officially used today, it still serves as a link to our collective history and memories. Alumni College Day is a day to remember and a day to renew old ties with school, teachers and friends.

Hwa Chong Junior College first moved into its permanent campus in Bukit Timah in July 1974. Thus it is appropriate that we designate the last week of July each year to mark this event and to celebrate our ties to the school.

For many, our two years spent at the college had been the best years of our young life. This was where we created enduring memories and forged strong bonds of friendship that lasted till today.

This year’s celebration will be held on July 28, 2017 at the College Hall.  Do join us with your friends as we walk down memory lane together. Activities include, photo taking with the uniform, special performance by Patrick Cheng (our 84/85 alumni who won the 1990 SBC Talent Time), community singing of songs we belted outed out during the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond led by our choir alumni and xinyao singers.

ALumni College Day

Friday, July 29, 2016
7 pm to 11 pm

ALumni College Day

During the Hwa Chong Junior College 40th anniversary gala dinner in 2014, we mooted the idea of having an Alumni College Day.

The Alumni College Day celebrates the spirit of all students of Hwa Chong Junior College. While the college name is no longer officially used today, it still serves as a link to our collective history and memories. Alumni College Day is a day to remember and a day to renew old ties with school, teachers and friends. Hwa Chong Junior College first moved into its permanent campus in Bukit Timah in July 1974. Thus it is appropriate that we designate the last Friday of July each year as the day to mark this event and to celebrate our ties to the school.

To celebrate the inaugural Alumni College Day, the Alumni has organized a reunion dinner at the College Hall. The details of the dinner are as follows:

Date : Friday, July 29, 2016
Time : 7 pm to 11 pm
Attire : Smart Casual
Price : $60 per head, will include dinner, wine and entertainment.

Net proceeds from the evening will be contributed to the Lim Nai Tian and Ang Wee Hiong book prizes.

The theme of this inaugural get together is "TIME".  Indeed it is a good time to look back to our youthful days and reminisce that important time when college was the centre of our lives. So even if we can’t recreate the shape we were in at that time, do attend wearing something that may pass as fashion of those years when you were 17 and 18 years old. You’re welcome to come in your school uniform if it still fits!

Reservations can be made through http://www.eventbrite.com/e/hcjc-alumni-college-day-tickets-25886745954

or submitting the above form to linwl001@gmail with your chequemail to the address indicated in the form.

Private Screening of The Songs We Sang

16th January 2016
3.30pm - 5.38pm

Dear friends,

One of our talented alumni, Singapore filmmaker Eva Tang (邓宝翠)’s first feature documentary, The Songs We Sang 《我们唱着的歌》, was a resounding success when it premiered at the Esplanade Theatre on 29 November 2015, as part of the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF). All 1,400 tickets were snapped within days. It was a night of emotions, tears and memories for many among the audiences.

The Songs We Sang chronicles the journey and delves deep into the origins of Xinyao (新谣) - a powerful artistic movement in the 1980s characterised by its uniquely local Chinese language songs about family, friendships and everyday life in Singapore. It features many popular singers and important personalities from the Xinyao movement, as well as younger pop singers such as Stefanie Sun and JJ Lin.

The St Nicholas Girls’ School Alumnae Association (SNGAA) and Hwa Chong Junior College Alumni will be jointly organising a private screening in two weeks’ time. Together with Eva and team, we hope to share this moving and highly-acclaimed documentary with fellow alumni – including the younger generation, so that they too can learn about this significant part of our history and culture.

We would also like to take this opportunity to raise funds for Eva and her team to acquire the copyright for the many songs and music videos in the documentary, so that The Songs We Sang can be screened in cinemas. Tickets for the private screening are priced at a nominal fee of $16 each to cover the rental cost of the theatre. We would like to appeal for donations to help Eva realise her dream and bring the documentary to a wider audience. Donation boxes will be available at the event.

Come join us and support The Songs We Sang! Details are as follows:
Date: 16 Jan 2016 (Saturday)
Time: 1530 hrs (duration: 128 mins)
Venue: Capitol Theatre
Price: $16 per ticket
Email: welovethesongs@gmail.com (Please write in to us indicating the number of tickets you would like to purchase and we will respond accordingly)

(Capitol Theatre)
票价: 每张16元
